Hey everybody. This is Josh. I wanted to create a post myself and personally tell you all thank you for all of your help and prayers throughout this whole thing! The outpouring of support for me and my family has been absolutely amazing. From the financial support, to the dinners for my family, to the cards and emails, and most of all the prayers, each and every one of you was just as big a part of this whole thing as any of the 19 men that went.
I've now had a few days to try and process some of the events that happened last week, and honestly I'm still having a tough time. My heart breaks each and every time I think about one of those precious little ones having to sleep on the ground and live in those conditions day in and day out. I know how tough it was on us and we were only there for 5 full days. They have no other choice. That's life for them. But the more I dwell on it, the more God has me asking myself, are they really the ones we should feel sorry for? Or are they the lucky ones?
What do I mean by that? Let me explain. While we were down there, I experienced worship like I have never seen before in my life. I saw people truly dancing, shouting, waiving their hands for the glory of God! They worshipped unashamed. They didn't care what the person next to them might think. They celebrated GOD!!!! They praised the Almighty like there would be no tomorrow, because they know there might not be. They did not need a mega church to do it. They did just fine in the middle of the dirt street. They did not need some famous speaker to motivate them. God's Holy Word did that. It was about God. It was about praising the Creator. It was about exalting the Savior. I read where Jeremy (Sanders) wrote to his wife that "their circumstances did not dictate their praise". That hits the nail on the head. I suspect I saw a glimpse of what worship around the throne of God will look like one day. With EVERYBODY praising God with everything they've got.
The Christians down there know what it's like to rely on God for their daily bread. They know what it's like to rely completely on Him to be their Jehovah Jireh, provider. 99.9% of Americans do not know that feeling. Myself included. The Haitian Christians don't have a "back up plan" in case God doesn't come through. There is no back up plan. He is all they've got. But you know what is the best part about that? HE IS ALL THEY NEED! And they know it. He is all we need. When are we going to realize that? When are we going to stop putting our faith in our bank accounts, and the stock market, and our employers, and our spouses, and our "stuff"? See, they fully understand that those things WILL fail (80% of Port Au Prince stands ruined because earthly things fail). But what stands firm is our God. The Christians there have a much better grasp of that. So who should we really feel sorry for?
Now all of that being said, this country still needs major prayer. Above I was addressing the Christians. Much of Haiti is still entrenched in voodoo and numerous other demonic practices, their goverment and infrastructure is as corrupt as anything I have ever or will ever see, and they seem set on keeping the people oppressed. There is no amount of U.S. Aid that can change this. Sadly, we think we can correct the problem by throwing a ton of money at it, and thinking we've "done our good deed". In all actuality, we saw first hand that this really creates dependence, destroys any feeling of self worth, and does more harm than good. There is no way that human means can rescue this country. It is going to take the Hand of God. It's going to take Christ's church rising up to become the salt and light of Haiti. It's going to come from strong spiritual leadership. At first glance this country looks hopeless, and beyond repair or redemption. But Psalm 33:6 tells us that "By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth." My God breathed the stars into existence! Nothing is too big for Him!
It would be easy for me to say that life is returning to normal after being home for a few days, but I pray to God that it does not. Our idea of "normal" is beginning to make me nauseous. I pray for Christians in our country to catch a passion like those in Haiti. I pray that I will be disgusted by materialism and idolatry (call it what we want that's what it is). I pray that my heart will be broken for what breaks His. I pray that I nor my family will ever want to be "normal".

Home at last!
The guys are home and can all rest. I know Josh is just glad to be able to open his mouth in the shower he said. They got off the plane around 10:30 in Birmingham. There will be tons of pictures and videos to show. Thanks so much for all your prayers for these men on this trip. Please continue to pray for the people of Haiti.

12 hours later...
Just wanted to let everyone know they have all made it safely back to Santo Domingo. They are at the hotel now. It took a total of 12 hours to drive 240 miles. Josh said the cars literally limped into the hotel with all the trouble. The guys were glad to get the greatest shower of all time I've heard. They also demolished the buffet at the hotel. After being refueled they all sat around the pool and were recapping the trip. He said they were talking about how many instances where God's Hand was so evident. It may not have been at the time, but it is now. How wonderful it is that only God can get the glory! They head out at 3:30 tomorrow and back home around 10:30.

Last day in Haiti
I can't help but think these men feel some kind of sadness leaving the Haitian people tomorrow. Hopefully just like Josh says in his email more than anything they have left something eternal with them......something that will last way beyond anything they could ever hope for. One of our friends Tori gave Josh a blanket that was special to her to give to someone there. Today he told me he gave that blanket to the little girl Lindsay that he talks about who's Addi's age. Her birthday is even Aug 12....two days before Addi's. Now she has a tent and a blanket to sleep on he says. Isn't it funny how God works things into your life like this? I can't wait to hear the many more things he has to tell me when he gets back. Please pray for their safe travel from Haiti to Santo Domingo.
Oh yeah, pay attention to the bottom of his email........he's already asking for me to cook for him and he's not even home yet! Men! Ha HA!
Well, it's done. Today was our last day in Haiti. It wasn't quite as wide open as the other days. The Haitian Christians called for a nationwide fast today from 8-12. The local churches are doing a 3 day fast. The church we are at had a 4 hour worship service this morning in the heat. Grown ups and kids. It was amazing, I never heard one child so much as whimper....in 4 hours!!!! They were all worshiping and singing too. Alex (from To Every Tribe) preached the last 30 minutes and did a phenomenal job. Their services are different from ours. Where we might have some worship time and then a sermon (Bible teaching), they don't really do that. They have worship throughout the service. With the pastor or speaker speaking praises to God, and then have some scripture readings throughout. There's really no teaching that I can see. But that's how they do it, and it's just a different culture. I just wonder where they get there discipleship from. Who knows? Maybe it's us, who should focus less on theology and more on worship!Other than the service, we served some more food. God had to grant me patience because many were getting demanding and that was rubbing many of us the wrong way. But I know that was Satan trying to stir us up. It ended up going well and we got well over a hundred fed. I realize that the food and meds are going to run out, but we have shared the Gospel with so many people, hopefully they have been left with something eternal. I know there have been salvation's since we've been here!So we're done. We are pulling out at 6:30 in the morning. The trip back into the DR WILL be eventful. No doubt about that. Only 2 of our 5 cars are running well. Roy worked with the Haitian mechanic all day to even get one to run! So we are not prepping for a short trip to Santo Domingo. I was emailing McGee today and told him that I miss my family SO much, and I can't wait to get back to you guys. But it breaks my heart that, while I will come home, and ease back into my comfortable little life, these people cannot. When I am in my bed with you Sunday night, that same beautiful little Lindsay who is Addi's age, will go to bed on the street. I know that God has as much of a plan for these people's lives as He does for mine and yours. He loves these babies as much as He loves mine and that is awesome! Life down here is very very hard. And I've only lived here a week! But these people have an incredible spirit! And the Christians love God so much! They praise Him for the sheet they have so they don't have to lay on the dirt! They put 95 percent of American Christians to shame. People have told me this trip would be life changing and it has been. I'll email you periodically tomorrow to keep you posted on our return trip. Please pray for safety and for our vehicles to run properly! Also could we possibly have a gigantic breakfast Monday morning? Bacon, eggs, gravy, biscuits, etc. I have eaten a protein bar every morning for the last 7 days. I am done with those!!! I love you and cannot wait to see you!

Worship time!
Have these Haitian people finally been broken enough to realize they need our Lord and Savior? The things beneath them have fallen, they nothing left to their name. They only thing have is to worship and cling to Jesus. I pray that this worship doesn't stay in worship but it goes out to others.
Hey! I know it's early, but I had to tell you this. You would love this place right now. At about 5 am, pitch black dark, about 2 or 3 people broke into praise songs. A few more joined in, then a few more, and before long nearly the whole church compound was singing praises to God.....and the sun wasn't even up. This has gone on for the last hour. God is teaching us WAY more than He's teaching them through this. Love you!
Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn't. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate, not man. When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever.

Light in a dark world...
His email tonight explains it all so I'll just let him tell you......
Is it snowing there yet? We were at a blustery 96 here today! It should cool to around 80 tonight where we sleep though! Today was another busy but good day.The rain only lasted about 20 minutes, but there was no more sleeping after that! We opened the med clinic when the interpreters got here about 9:15. It was wide open until we shut down for food service about 2:00. Doc Jarrett and the two EMTs Brian and Jesse have been amazing. Those guys have barely stepped out of the church for four days and have been helping people like crazy. Today was the busiest day for them. We won't have the clinic tomorrow because they only wanted us to open it in the afternoon, due to a morning fast. We couldn't do that because we have to get our stuff loaded up. We also fed about 250 people today from the food that we bought. Our guys cooking did awesome! They finally arrived back from Port with the kids against hunger meals. Satan did not want that food to get here because after getting it after three days, one of our cars broke down on the way back! They finally got here. We got organized and distributed it out. God used this crew of 20 guys and a couple of church folks to run the distribution near perfectly! People started pushing and shoving a little but nothing alarming. That is to be expected when you are handing out food in a starving nation I guess. Tonight we went down to our tent church on the street that we've been going to, because Alex was supposed to preach. However, our contact from the church left about 10 this morning, said he'd be back in 30 min, and never showed back up! Long story. Anyway, alex couldn't preach because we had no interpreter. Tomorrow is going to be fairly laid back. We plan to cook again, and just hang out and fellowship with the kids and people. We'll have to begin packing tomorrow to leave early Saturday to head back to the DR . Someone made the comment about the change in the neighborhood since we had been here. When we pulled in, it was a very scary place. No one laughing, very dark atmosphere. But in four days, the adults are all laughing and cutting up with us, and the kids are having a blast! It's like a different place. I have to think this is what Jesus meant when he said Christians were to be the light of the world! Just loving these people this week has made a huge difference! I pray it doesn't change when we leave! We've got a couple of long days ahead, before coming home. Pray that we can reach more with the Gospel tomorrow. Also, we have to get our cars running okay. Pray that we can get them operational enough to get us back to Santo Domingo! That will be another miracle in itself! I love you so much!!!!! Oh yeah, I had some home brewed Haitian coffee this morning! Starbucks has nothing on the Haitians!!!

Food goes fast
Wow! They have given out all fifty thousand meals (give or take few boxes left for the church). The guys on this trip coupled with a few locals Josh said were WAY more effective than the UN! It went as smoothly as it could in this situation! A couple of iffy moments, but very well done by these men! He said he would give more updates later tonight.
Quick update
Well it looks like they had to shut down the clinic for the day after seeing a few hundred already. The reason for closing is because they are back from St. Marc with food (two flats and one broken down car later) and they have two officials there to oversee the distribution. They are there to make sure they weren't selling it. Isn't that funny that they are there making sure our guys aren't selling the food?! I believe if I have it right they are the ones that are selling the already donated food. Anyways, that is just a whole other story we could go into. They also prepared the food they bought and already fed probably 150 and counting. He says they are all still good and no gun fire last night. Ha ha. Praise the Lord!
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Wet
Pray for the guys today that the rain will not hinder anything. They awoke early this morning to lots of locals coming to where they were due to the pouring rain. Here sometimes I love that the rain is so refreshing...... there all I can picture is a big mess. God has a plan and is in control!

Another great day!
Well it sounds like Wed went well for them. Another day full of sharing the Gospel, giving out medicine and feeding the poor. Josh always talks about how he can't sing but tonight he had too. Like Pastor Kevin says it doesn't matter if you can't carry a tune in a bucket as long as your praising God and that's what our men did. I don't know about you but when I see men singing to the Lord it says something about them. Would've loved to been there! In this email he said that the guys don't have the food yet but I talked with Kandy after church tonight and she said that they did have the food!!!! Praise the Lord!!!! God is good all the time!!
Hey baby. We just finished up our day with another amazing worship service in the street. Only half the team was there, but they got us all up to introduce ourselves and speak for a minute or two. Everybody did an great job! But I'm not sure our translator knew how to translate Heath's "yall's" HA!!!! Then they asked if we would do them the honor of singing them a song. So we all stood in front of them and sang Amazing Grace while they sang it in Creole. (Every tribe, every tongue). Incredible. God shows up and shows out every time! I watched a little girl a little smaller than Addi, and broke down for the first time. She was absolutely beautiful, and she was about to lay down for bed......on her sheet in the middle of the dirt street. That absolutely broke me. I just stood there and cried! But God is so good and has a plan for her life too! The rest of the team is in St Marc again tonight. Alex and Jeremy have gotten every piece of paper and signature they have asked for. We'll see if they get the food tomorrow. Other than that we got a LOT accomplished today. The clinic guys saw roughly 300 people today. But more importantly every single one of them heard the Gospel from one of us. Every one! It is very difficult explaining what Christ did for us to a 7 year old Haitian boy who has never even heard of God! But the Spirit will use the words! We also got a good propane stove for the church to keep. The ladies at the church insisted on cooking today. I finally just sucked it up and dove in with a giant plate......and it was awesome!!! Rice and chicken was incredible! So far no stomach problems. The guys found a burger joint where they've been going for lunch with"a good bathroom"! Praise God! We are cooking tomorrow with food that we bought. I guarantee it won't be near as good as the locals! All in all very tiring, but another good day. I'm missing you and my babies BAD! I can't wait to see you Sunday! I'll email or call tomorrow! Sleep tight!

Mid day update
He tells me that Alex and Jeremy are still trying to get the proper paperwork to get the food from port. But Elise, him, and a couple of locals went and bought the church a new stove and as soon as the propane gets there, they are going to start cooking the stuff they bought. Last night he said they were awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of gunfire. And to give evidence of the peace that only God is able to provide, they all kind of laughed and every single one of them went back to sleep and got a good nights rest. He still continues to tell me not to worry. They found out this morning it was cops shooting at looters in a collapsed market. It's all good. He said his jaw drops every time he turns around. Most recently, while Elise and him were driving through Port Au Prince, he looked over and a woman was walking buck naked up the sidewalk through thousands of people! And the craziest thing was, no one even gave it a second thought. This place needs Jesus bad.

Words can't describe....
Words can't describe what I'm feeling for those men over there right now. There is such a passion in me that wants to be there with Josh but I know this mission was meant for him. As I read the emails he sends I can't help but picture myself there with those people....maybe with the women helping them cook or with the children playing. The guys had a service tonight with the people and he said it was wonderful! I know this is what heaven has got to be like one day and thinking about it almost takes my breath away. I'll let you read his email because my words couldn't even explain how he's feeling.
Hey baby! I laying here with a few minutes and thought I'd email before bed. I'll still keep my phone off but am not quite as nervous about it dying because I can charge it for a few minutes each night. Right now I am listening to a generator running and a bunch of people speaking Creole. And it's about a hundred degrees! This trip has been amazing so far. It has been VERY challenging for this little redneck from Alabama!!! The poverty and (for lack of a better term) filth these people live in mind boggling. I can't begin to describe anything I've seen from the poverty to the destruction of the earthquake. I can't tell you in an email. It would take too long. But these people are still trucking! Right this second I am surrounded by about 200 Haitians sleeping on the dirt floor or literally in the streets and they have NOTHING! But you smile at them and they light up. Especially the children. They are still having a ball!!! I can't wait to show you all their pictures. They loved getting their picture made! Then the church service tonight was absolutely amazing! About a hundred of us gathered under some tarps in the street and just praised God! I don't think I need to tell you again, these folks have absolutely nothing! Yet they are praising God harder than 90 percent of people in our church! They were singing old hymns (you would've loved it) in Creole while sang in English! Alex (Sisson) looked over at me and said "little piece of heaven ain't it?" And it was. Every nation, every tribe, every tongue. It was incredible! The next four days are still going to be very difficult, but God is here, and moving. An example that God still works miracles: He got our four vehicles all safely from St.Marc through Port au Prince safely during rush hour (again I can't eve describe it).....with a lead driver who didn't speak English and no other translators. Tell me God isn't working!!! Gotta go. They tell activity begins around 5 am! I love you more than ever!

He has let me know that they bought 200 lb of beans and 150 lbs of rice. They just ate their 1st real Haitian meal that the ladies cooked for them at the church. He said he needs prayer that his stomach holds up. Many of you know how he is about his BATHROOM!
Another day with no food in hand!
I know the guys have got to be frustrated today when they go to the port and have to leave without the food again. This is the donated food from the children's hunger place I think. He seems a bit discouraged and said basically yesterday and last night were a waste for half of them. They will have to go to the finance ministry in port au prince to get papers. They were headed back there and they will try again tomorrow. In the mean time they were going to buy some rice and beans in addition to what they had and start cooking today. The other team back in P'ville seems to be going at it. The clinic is up and running and the locals are singing and praising God. You don't have to be at GFBC to have church that's for sure! God will show up anywhere you let Him!! He said he couldn't wait to get back over there.
Like new!
His email this morning made me feel much better. He said it was the most rest he got even though he slept on what he called a piece of ply wood. He said they got up and they fed them all breakfast and they have all the instant STARBUCKS coffee he wants. What they don't know is they just made his day! He's ready go and get to work. Pray they get the food off the port today with no problems.

What will you do?
Josh and I along with some others went on a missions conference a couple of weeks ago. Just got an email from someone there that showed a video that was very moving. Josh talked about it in Sunday school last week how he couldn't stop thinking about it...... now it's been sent to me to watch all over. I just find it amazing a few weeks later now he's gone doing God's work, reaching people that may have never had a chance. God works in wonderful and amazing ways! After watching this video you too will know, but what will you do?

There are ten guys with this group in St. Marc. At first I thought they were going to be sleeping in cars due to the mission dorms being full at the church. You see they brought nothing with them except for money and water because they didn't intend to stay. He did later send an email saying "Praise the Lord they have managed to scramble a few beds!" He's not sure how he will charge his phone because there is definitely no electricity in P'ville. Pray God will give them rest even in these conditions along with strength.

Long Day
Well I hope the group Josh is with knows how to change tires pretty good.(Ha Ha) Step back satan all your doing is teaching my man SKILL with all those flat tires!!! I can't help but feel an overwhelming presence of God with them.
Holy cow! What a day! I thought yesterday was the longest day of my life, but nope, today is! I am with half of our team in St. Marc. We can't get out food today so we have to wait until tomorrow. We decided to stay here, because it took about three hours to get here! We have hooked up, by the true grace of God, with other American Christians and we'll probably stay at this Christian Mission St. Marc, with them tonight so we can get our stuff tomorrow. We have had 4 flat tires today. No typo, FOUR flats. Satan is working overtime, but God keeps coming through. The medical clinic is set up and ready to roll tomorrow. Pray that we get the food. And praise God for these people we met!

This is my email update from Josh. I figured it best sometimes to just post it as he sends it.
Okay. We've unloaded at the church (do not picture an American church, this one is very rough). Half the team is setting up at camp and me and the other half are rushing to the port to try to get the food before it closes. I cannot even begin to tell you the conditions here. My words could not describe how bad the poverty is. The smell isn't too bad. Not so much death as I expected. It just smells bad in general, but that's not a big deal. I've already made friends with a group of kids who were curious about us. It's amazing how smiling at them lights them up! I have a feeling we will be good friends by the end of the week. We haven't been in downtown Port Au Prince yet. But have already seen mind blowing damage. Huge buildings flattened. I'll try to send pix of our living conditions later. Please continue to pray. It will be a very tough week! But please tell mom it is not unsafe. I have been completely at ease the whole time. Oh yeah, and the bathroom is nasty!!!! HA!! Don't know if I'll be able to email tonight or not. I love you. Kiss my babies!!

Arrived in Petionville
Just got an email from Josh......he said they arrived in Petionville safely. It took them right at 8 hours. He says living conditions for the next 4 days will be ROUGH! They were about to get to work. That's all I have for now.

Day One
As I await Josh's email or phone calls the anticipation is hard to bare. I don't really know if I'm just waiting to hear if he's OK..... I do fully trust God is in control and has His Mighty hand on everyone of those men! I think it's more a waiting to hear what awesome thing God is doing......doing with our men and through them! What I do know is Haiti will never be the same when God's full presence steps foot on those grounds and changes lives! This is an email he sent me and then not long after that, he sent me another stating Harrison Ford was in the lobby of their hotel. Gotta love him!
Day 1 is winding to a close. We're watching the Super Bowl in our room about to go to the hotel rest. And eat. The hotel is okay much like an American one. So I'm sure by week's end when we come back it will be incredible! Today has been nuts! Nothing has been easy from rental cars, to even getting gas has been an ordeal! I don't see how Jeremy is keeping it all together. It's been very stressful, and today isn't even a taste of what's coming tomorrow. Satan is definitely working. But God is too! Our doctor was snowed in in DC, so we didn't think he would be into Petionville until late Tuesday, but he got a flight out of Philly and will be here in about an hour. Please pray for safe travel tomorrow and for God to ready us for what's to come. We talked to a lady at the hotel who had just come back and she said it was far worse than anything she had ever imagined! He's going to do big things!

They are there!
I was almost beginning to think Josh was really gonna wait until tonight to let me know they arrived there safely. Until I remembered to check my email.......aah there it was an email at 12:06 sent from the Blackberry. I seemed to forget he would be mostly emailing me instead of texting or calling because of prices. He said it was smooth flying and even earlier than they thought as they landed in the DR. They have now made it to the hotel they are staying at tonight. I guess they have lots of time to plan what they will be doing tomorrow and go through supplies.
In the air!!
They left out this morning with no problems. I guess you can consider it no problems when at least one of your 19 men miss their flight. Hopefully he can catch up! They were in Atlanta at around 6:54 this morning and then boarded and ready for Santo Domingo at 8:20am. As you can guess Josh updates me with texts and calls just like he does most of you with emails and such. I'm sure he will let me know when they get there so I'll update later.

Ready to go!
It's amazing what people will do in as little as 3 to 4 days. People have been so giving in every area of this trip. We spent the afternoon packing bags full of supplies that never seemed to end. There were bottles of Tylenol, tooth paste, hand sanitizer, bandages, medicine, crackers, school supplies and that's just some of the items. There were tons of alcohol swabs, IVs and syringes. So... with all the bags packed and ready to go the guys will be at the church in the morning 3:30am packing church vans full. Their flight is scheduled to leave at 6:00am but I don't want to say a specific time they're to arrive in case it's thrown off a bit. Nerves must not be bothering Josh a bit. Sound asleep snoring like a baby. By the way he does feel a little better due to someone bringing a toilet seat. (at least he has somewhere to sit and go!) Please be in prayer for each one of these guys!

Change....
There has been lots of change taking place in our home for quite a while. God has great plans for us and its crazy sometimes to see how they unfold. I know I haven't posted in a long time...... you will find in the next week or two I will be posting quite a bit. As Josh gets ready to leave for Haiti on Sunday we are getting very anxious about his arrival into a very cursed land. God tells us that he is exactly where he is supposed to be. Every part of this trip has been laid out so perfect! We have had help from so many people and know that it was a God thing. My heart has been CHANGED by many things lately not only by this tragic event in Haiti. For example....my heart is wide open to orphans and I never thought I would even think about adoption much less consider it. But I wonder if God puts things(earthquakes) in our lives so that we will wake up and CHANGE!! Change the world one person for Him. With the Gospel and with His love we can do anything! Thanks guys for going to change the world one person at a time for the Glory of the Lord!
