Faith, Fundraising, and Facial Hair

"Growing a beard is a habit most natural, scriptual, manly, and beneficial."
Charles Spurgeon

As most of you know, I (Josh) love my beard.  My kids have grown to love my beard.  My wife....well....not so much, but whatever.  So with the Uganda trip coming up in just four short months, and with us being about 3/4 of the way to our goal of $20,000, I wondered how I could use my beloved beard to help send our family to Uganda.  So after a friend jokingly made a comment about paying me for every half inch my beard grew before we left, I decided to let it do what beards do best:  grow.

So here's the plan.  As you can see below, I am currently clean shaven.  (I almost cried when I shaved.  Avery did cry.....seriously.....she did.)

However, I do not intend to stay this way.  A razor will not touch my face (okay, so I'll have to shave my neck) again until at least May 1 (we leave May 17).  Here's where the fundraising comes in.  I am taking "pledges" for every half inch it grows over the next 3 1/2 months, with the final measurement coming on May 1.  I'll post weekly pictures to show progress.  "Pledges" will be received via our Paypal link on this blog.  (If you would like to pledge, message Kim or myself on Facebook or comment on this blog post, so we can keep track!)

I know what most of you are thinking.  "So basically we're giving you money to grow facial hair?"  Um, yeah.  Pretty much.  We wanted all of our fundraisers to provide those who donated with something of value or entertainment.  Does this one? No, not really.  This "beard fundraiser" is purely for fun (and hopefully to help us get closer to our goal to get to Uganda).  We have events planned over the next couple of months, but this one is just for laughs.  Plus, it gives me an excuse to grow my beard as thick as possible without Kim being able to give me grief for it!

So help us out.  Support my facial hair........and family's ministry in Uganda!!!!

Josh
