I Just Have To Shake My Head and Laugh

About a week and a half ago, we wrote a blog post about Sonrise Baby Home and some land for sale that had come available behind the home that could be used for livestock and farming.  Land in Jinja, Uganda is very expensive and due to the prime location of this property, it was even more costly.  The price is $12,000 USD.  My wife had the idea that she wanted to try to help Sonrise raise this money.  She said to start with, let's see if we could raise $2,000 by Orphan Sunday (November 3rd).  We had a donor who wishes to remain anonymous that would match up to the first $2000.  So Sonrise would be $4000 into their $12000 goal to get the land.  We would try to get others to partner with us and raise support for the rest of the money after that.  I thought "okay, probably a long shot, but why not try?"  So we began sharing the blog post.  Since then, it has been viewed by almost 600 people in ten different countries.  (Social media is incredible.)

Needless to say, there have been some interesting developments since that blog was first posted, and once again God has told us to now step back and watch Him work.  Mark and Marie Wattier are Damali Wattier's (the director of Sonrise) parents.  They currently live in Mobile, and handle the ministry's business stateside.  Marie was going to keep Kim up to speed on how donations were coming.  As of this past Thursday (10/31), she sent Kim a message saying we were at around $900.  We knew of  a couple of other friends that were making donations, so we were about halfway there with just a few days left.  We thought were doing okay and continued to share the blog. On Saturday afternoon (11/2), she sends a message saying a donor had just sent $1000 for the purchase of the land!!!!!!  We don't have a final tally yet, but the bottom line is THE GOAL HAS BEEN REACHED!!!  And another $2000 will be added on top of that on Monday, by an anonymous donor!  But wait for it......it doesn't stop there!

Interesting development number two.  Last week, we also found out that Rick and Bubba (a nationally syndicated hit morning show based out of Birmingham) will be holding their annual "Turkey Toss" on site at our home church (Gardendale First Baptist Church).  It's an ideal location with a wide open parking lot and Rick and Bubba thought it would be a great place to have the event.  Through a series of different events.....and God's Hand over all of them.......Sonrise was selected to receive the proceeds from the Turkey Toss.  Or more specifically, towards the purchase of this land!!!!!  ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THIS, GOD??!!!

So, here's what that means:  1.  If you have given financially or prayerfully, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.  You now have a vested interest in the eternity of the people of Uganda.         2.  The Rick and Bubba Show is listened to by literally tens of thousands of people all over the United States.  On the day of Turkey Toss, they will be talking A LOT about Sonrise Ministries and sweet, sweet people of Uganda.  More people than ever will hear how the fatherless are being rescued and the Gospel is being taken to these people.  3.  Sonrise, God willing, will be able to purchase the land and take another step in becoming even more self sustaining, and providing better nutrition and quality of life to those beautiful babies and children.

So, here's the deal, God has done it........AGAIN.  All praise and honor and glory goes to Him alone.  He has proven the He is bigger than any bank account.  He has proven that if He owns the cattle on a thousand hills, a simple sum of money is nothing to Him.  He's proven that He's passionate about caring for the fatherless, and making His Name famous in the process.   So, again, thank you to all who have given and prayed and supported.  I don't think any of us will know on this side of eternity, the impact it has made.
We love you guys!
