Day 4: Sonrise Baby and Children's Home
If anyone knows the Moody family at all, you knew Sonrise Baby Home would be on here for one of our days. Words can't express the gratitude to God that we have for this amazing place. Sonrise Baby Home is located in Jinja, Uganda and is the home our two sons, Steven and Mark, were adopted from. We truly have fallen in love with every child, every staff member, Damali Wattier (the founder) and everyone involved with Sonrise.
Sonrise Baby Home cares for children ages 0-3 and currently has 27 babies at the home. (Meet some of the new babies here!) Sonrise Children's Home cares for children ages 3 and up and currently has 20 children. The staff takes in neglected, abused, and abandoned children. They care for children whose parents cannot or will not take care of them, and they care for orphaned children with no parents as well.
Sonrise is a Christ centered, Gospel teaching ministry that nurtures babies and children both physically and spiritually. Out of the homes, a church has begun called Sonrise Community Church. It is pastored by Ivan Mukulu. Through the local the church, they minister to surrounding villages through caring for the poor, evangelism, orphan and widow care, and loving the least of these. Sonrise Ministries cares for orphans and abandoned children, but they also do so much more. They are truly a light for Christ in their community.
How can you minister to them as they minister to these children? First you can make a one time donation of any amount here. What can your dollars do for Sonrise? I'm glad you asked. $10 can buy fruit for a day for the baby home and children's home (feeding 47 kids). $20 can buy a can of formula for the youngest babies at Sonrise (this is a HUGE need right now due to all the malnourished little ones coming in). $30 can treat a child with malaria, or buy 80 disposable diapers, or buy antibacterial detergents for cleaning for a week, or buy beef and fish for a day for the baby and children's homes.
You can also sponsor an individual child here for $30/month. This gives you the opportunity to continue to make an impact in the child's life month after month. We have been to Sonrise (Kim, on several occasions) and we have seen firsthand the difference that these individual sponsorships make in these incredible children's lives. Here is what I mean. Below are two pictures of our son, Steven, when he was first brought to Sonrise and the second is him several months later after being at Sonrise.
Sponsorships make a difference!!!
One last thing, as an added bonus to giving, anyone who donates will receive a free Ugandan beaded necklace, or you can purchase these for $10. If you donate online, put "12 Days of Christmas" in the comments section and we will get you one. If you want to purchase the beads, simply comment below on this blog post and let us know and we will get in touch with you!! Consider giving this Christmas to this amazing ministry!
